Two parking lift systems, one facility, zero wasted space

West Hollywood Park and Aquatics Center is one of the city’s most active public facilities, drawing residents and visitors throughout the week to its aquatics programs, fitness center, and outdoor park space. Meeting the consistent parking demand that comes with that volume, on a constrained urban block, required a higher-density approach than surface lots alone could provide.

ParkPlus installed a combined mechanical parking system of 25 SP100 Suspended Platform parking lifts and 10 DP003 Double Stacker parking lifts across the facility. Each suspended platform creates two parking positions: an upper platform and a ground-level space below, effectively doubling the yield of every bay where one is installed. A portion of the suspended platform lifts are deployed within the drive aisles themselves, converting circulation space into productive high-density parking. The double stacker units apply the same two-level approach across additional indoor bays. EV charging was integrated throughout both systems, consistent with the City of West Hollywood’s sustainability commitments.

More parking capacity. Same footprint.

Public facilities face the same parking pressure as any high-traffic destination, without the option to expand into protected green space. The City of West Hollywood needed to substantially increase parking capacity at the park using mechanical parking lifts rather than new construction.

The dual ParkPlus high-density parking system resolved that constraint directly. Suspended platform parking lifts and double stacker units stacked vehicle storage vertically across every zone of the site, nearly doubling available capacity within the existing parking envelope. With EV charging built in from the start, the installation also positioned the facility for the city’s ongoing electrification goals with no future retrofit required.

The Challenge

High visitor volume, fixed urban footprint

West Hollywood Park serves the community as a year-round destination, with its aquatics center, fitness programming, and outdoor space generating consistent daily traffic. Parking demand routinely exceeded what the surface lot could handle, but the site offered no room to expand without encroaching on the park grounds the city was committed to preserving. A conventional structured parking solution was neither feasible on the footprint nor practical for a public facility of this scale.

The Solution

Mechanical parking lifts matched to every zone

ParkPlus deployed two mechanical parking lift systems in parallel, each matched to a distinct zone of the facility. Suspended platform parking lifts were installed within the covered structure, with each unit creating two positions from a single bay. A number of units were also positioned within the drive aisles, turning dead circulation space into active high-density parking. Double stacker parking lifts were deployed across additional indoor bays, doubling the capacity of each position. EV charging was built into both systems from the outset, eliminating the need for future infrastructure upgrades as the city’s vehicle fleet continues to electrify.

Parking lifts for public facilities

How does a suspended platform parking lift work?

A suspended platform parking lift creates two parking positions from a single bay. The upper platform descends to ground level to accept a vehicle, then raises to its stored position overhead, freeing the ground-level space below for a second vehicle. The system requires no pit excavation and no structural modification to the building above — it suspends from an existing overhead structure.

At West Hollywood Park, ParkPlus deployed suspended platform lifts both within the covered parking structure and within the drive aisles, turning every available bay and aisle into a productive high-density parking position.

What is the difference between a suspended platform lift and a double stacker?

Both systems create two parking positions where one previously existed, but they are designed for different site conditions. A suspended platform lift requires an overhead structure to hang from, making it ideal for covered parking areas and garages. A double stacker parking lift is a self-supporting two-level unit that does not require an overhead structure, making it versatile for a range of indoor and outdoor configurations.

West Hollywood Park uses both: suspended platforms in the covered zones and double stackers across additional indoor bays, maximizing capacity across every part of the facility.

Can parking lifts be installed in drive aisles?

Yes, and it is one of the most effective ways to recover capacity on a constrained site. Drive aisles in covered parking structures typically offer overhead clearance and structural attachment points that make them suitable for suspended platform lift installation. Space that would otherwise contribute nothing to parking capacity can be converted into additional positions without modifying the surrounding structure.

At West Hollywood Park, a portion of the suspended platform units were installed directly within the drive aisles, extracting additional parking capacity from space the original facility design had left unproductive.

Are mechanical parking lifts compatible with EV charging?

Yes. ParkPlus mechanical parking lifts, including the SP100 Suspended Platform and DP003 Double Stacker, are compatible with Level 2 EV charging. Charging equipment can be integrated at installation rather than retrofitted later, which reduces long-term cost and ensures every parking position is EV-ready from day one.

At West Hollywood Park, EV charging was integrated throughout both systems across all 70 parking spaces, consistent with the City of West Hollywood’s commitment to expanding public EV infrastructure.

Are parking lifts suitable for municipal and public facility installations?

Mechanical parking lifts are well suited to public facilities, parks, recreation centers, and municipal buildings where parking demand is high and site expansion is not an option. They deliver substantially more parking capacity within the existing footprint without major construction, and can be installed with minimal disruption to ongoing facility operations.
